Practice Nurses - Management of medical emergencies course

Good emergency medicine is 10% clinical skill and 90% good logistics!

Cynergex Group provides our customised Medical Emerency training for nurses at all levels. The purpose of this training course is to provide the Practice Nurse with up to date knowledge on the current consensus regarding the management of common medical emergencies and to train them to take a leadership role in support of the GP in the delivery of treatment regimes that demand effective teamwork from all concerned.

This course employs Crew Resource Management techniques (usually referred to as Practice Resource Management) within the health care area, giving the Practice Nurses the confidence to effectively lead the management of an emergency in the absence of the medical practitioner. The focus of the course is a collegiate learning experience which is hands on and non-threatening.

At the end of the training participants will be able to:

  • Identify the most common medical emergencies affecting patients using a risk management approach
  • Manage the immediate care of medical emergencies utilising a practice management (crew resource management) system
  • Apply techniques and protocols consistent with current emergency medical guidelines for pre-hospital care
  • Refer the patient to further appropriate care.

The training takes 7 hours and can be arranged to be delivered directly at the medical practice with the whole practice team or Practice Nurses can attend courses at our training rooms in Clayton (Victoria) or Lane Cove (NSW).

Completion of this educational activity entitles eligible practice nurses to claim 7 CPD hours and this activity has been endorsed by the Australian Practice Nurses Associtation, according to approved criteria.
